Adventures In Moving

So my day off yesterday was occupied with helping M's mom move to a new apartment.

Helping M's Mom was M, myself, M's brother Dave, and 2 hired movers. For one person, she sure has a lot of stuff. Mostly books. All I could think about after lifting the nth box of books was "How many boxes will I have when I move next?" Hopefully, not as many.

It took all day and although the weather was not a hot as it has been lately, it was even more humid and rained off and on. Fortunately, the rain really didn't cause too much hassle.

The joke of the day was "Jesus was at the Mexican border and about to cross into Mexico...". This was the start of a joke a man was about to tell M, M's Mom, and me at the truck rental place while we waited for our truck. He stopped abruptly and that's all we heard of it. M asked him a few minutes later for the rest of it but he declined, claiming it would take too long to finish and that it was actually an old Cheech & Chong routine. Sigh. Guess I shall never know.

Dave, M's brother, strikes me as an unhappy person. He sure has an extensive 4-letter word vocabulary. Most 0f his remarks were variations of "Jesus f**king Christ, what is this s**t?" At one point he was muttering darkly while taking down a shelf unit in a closet and I yelled at him "Relax, Dave! It's not f**king rocket science!" I actually only said this to get a laugh out of M as it's a private joke (ask if you want the history)...but Dave was off and running and there was no stopping him:

"Christ, it's not anywhere near f**king rocket science. It's not even f**king differential equations and I f**king majored in that. I've got a f**king Master's and I can't get a goddamn job in my f**king major."

Was he serious? Was he actually joking back with us? Who could tell? M and I feared for our lives and fled the room.

On the bright side of the day, I got to play with M's Mom's dog Madison and see M's new puppy Kayleigh. I like both dogs and actually felt relaxed with both right off the bat. They're both very cute and well-behaved. I wonder if M noticed how cool I was--he often accuses me of not liking dogs. I never had any kind of pet growing up (which has never bothered me) and I always felt that the next-door neighbors didn't treat their dog very well, so I'm usually a little stiff around friends' dogs and it can take me a while to warm up to them--especially dogs that jump.
But around these 2 I felt totally fine.

M did notice how relaxed you were around both dogs. In fact, M even commented to Mrs. M about how good you were with Madison-dog. Madison appreciated your words of encouragement.

By the way, you left out M's spazstic moment. You don't need to sensor your blog just because you know M will read it...

Oh, and M is still really, really thankful for all of your help.

M did notice how relaxed you were around both dogs. And M was especially impressed by your encouragement of Madison-dog, so much so that M commented to Mrs. M about the matter.

And yes, M's brother is a bit of an unhappy, swearing dolt. But you need not have sensored out M's spazstic moment simply because M reads your blog.

Oh, and M is still very, very grateful for all of your help.
