Denunciation of Colonial Imperialism, or Just A Stupid Kids' Movie?

Saturday night last, Steef and I were invited over to Grasshopper & Jeff's for dinner/Christmas celebration/game night.

Jeff made good pasta & tomatoes dish (admittedly, I did not eat many of the tomatoes, but it was still a good dinner) and Steef made one of his fantastic apple pies (what we need to find is just the right ice cream to go with it; No Sugar Added Vanilla just doesn't cut it...).

After dinner we played a quick round of "Bananagrams" (won by....me!) and then sat down to watch the holiday film "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians".

It was a pretty bad movie...but we had a good time watching and making witty/snide remarks about it throughout. After it finished, Grasshopper went off on how the movie was actually a comment on colonial imperialism and how more dominant cultures can wipe-out smaller, weaker ones. I think he was joking around, but I was too full of apple pie to really engage him on it. Groovy music though.

Voldar, the lead villain in the movie and who had the best fake moustache ever, kept reminding me of someone and it took me forever to figure it out. His "acting" (and the moustache) reminded me of Jesse Ventura in the Arnold movie "The Running Man".

Steef wants to make the movie one of our Christmas traditions...
Eeep!
