Have read quite a lot of David Leavitt lately: 4 short story collections (Family Dancing, A Place I've Never Been, Arkansas, and The Marble Quilt) and one novel (The Lost Language of Cranes). He is a good writer; his characters come alive and are very realistic, but often his subject matter and themes are depressing. I've also noticed he repeats themes and catchphrases quite frequently...it's like he copies himself.
Waiting on the "To Read" shelf is a biography of the historical warrior-king Hadrian (of wall fame). Not sure if I will actually get to it. It does, however, reinforce my recent trend of biographies. Speaking of which, there is a new one out about Abraham Lincoln that sounds pretty good (and not a little controversial!). Author is one C.A. Tripp (As far as I know, no relation).
Almost done with a book about the Alien movies. Hate it. Thought it was going to be a discussion or analysis of the quadrilogy, or at least a "Making of..." trivia-type book. Alas. The writer is an idiot. Drivel, drivel, drivel.
