I noticed a guy in the magazine bay at the bookstore this afternoon who reminded me of Jimmy S--. I knew it wasn't Jimmy, the guy had only a passing resemblance, but the effect was startling at first.
Then I realized I hadn't thought about Jimmy S-- for at least 20 years.
I didn't really know Jimmy too well; he was a friend of my friend Chuck. In fact, I think the only time I ever saw Jimmy was when I was with Chuck. I seem to recall Chuck, Dave P--, and myself stopped over at Jimmy's house in West Duluth one night and another time the four of us went to the Cove in Superior.
I wonder what happened to Jimmy. I think Chuck once told me he (Jimmy) planned on joining the Army after graduating high school (both Chuck and Jimmy were a year younger than me). Wonder if he followed through on that.
I remember Jimmy being slight, with curly blond hair. That he was a good dancer also sticks in my mind. And he favored jean jackets. I often wondered if he was gay; that night we stopped at his house I noticed the walls of his bedrooms were covered with pictures of weightlifters and male rock singers cut from magazines.
I've suddenly recalled thinking I saw him one night at the old Main Club in Superior. I can't remember now if I decided it was him or not (we didn't speak, he might not have even noticed me).
Wherever he is, I hope is he well and life is good.
