Adventures In Hairstyling

This was the conversation I had with the hairstylist at Great Clips this evening as I was paying for the haircut I just received:

Hairstylist (who had a voice just like the actress who played Dharma's friend Jane on the show "Dharma & Greg"): How's that feel for you? Better? You like having short hair?

Me: Yes, feels much better, thank you.

(At this point, the stylist has noticed the Claddagh ring I wear on my left hand to symbolize my committment to Steef)

Hairstylist: Does your wife like you having short hair, too?

I stared at her, not quite sure what to say. I thought briefly of just saying "yes" and then just saying I wasn't married. However, by this time, my pause has gone for a couple of seconds too long and the hairstylist is starting to put 2+2...so I said

Me: I don't have one of those (with a kind of condescending smirk).

Hairstylist: (has turned a very light shade of pink, but she recovered pretty well): Oh, yeah. Well, does your significant other like you having short hair?

Me: Yes, yes he does.

Hairstylist: Did I turn red just then?

Me: (held up my thumb and finger about a half-inch apart): Just a little bit.

She laughed. I made a little chuckle, finished paying and left.
