PHIL
I read your letters today;
Going back in time more than 20 years.
There were only three,
But they are so much more.
I remember the party at the house
And I said my goodbyes.
I couldn't find you anywhere.
Only now do I know how sad I felt.
Then there you were;
Hiding behind my car on the street.
I wish I could tell you
How much that meant to me.
I think you wanted our goodbye
To be just the two of us.
Alone.
Personal.
I don't remember a single word
Either of us said.
Maybe my memory lies
And you were never there.
But you were.
We were.
